Welcome to beautiful Bowstring Lake
in Deer River, Minnesota
Follow your dreams, we recommend
it - we did it. We are the proud Owners of Rocky Shores Resort Deer River, MN.
Thirty years ago our first dates included a dozen crawlers and fishing poles. As a young girl, Mary Kay would
row herself back onto the lake to fish, when everyone else was done fishing. This resort is a retreat from
a stressful world. The cabins are just steps to shimmering Bowstring Lake. We want to make your
vacations the best possible vacations. If you need quiet and nature, it's here. If you need some great fishing locations
there are hundreds of spots in 9,000+ acres of Bowstring Lake, If you are looking for a seasonal RV space
we have several. If you are looking for a safe place for kids to swim we have a heated swimming pool with sun deck. Follow our
blog as we live the dream of providing a premier vacation resort experience for your family.
Your Hosts, Scott and Mary Kay Retzlaff

One month ago today we became the owners of Rocky Shores Resort. The
contract was written on a day that comes only once every one hundred years - 09/09/09! Closing was October 2, 2009.
It's been a whirlwind. This has been a dream of ours for twenty years or more. We decided to exit the insanity
sometimes found in corporate life. We have so many hopes and dreams. We love Minnesota. We love families,
and fishing and boating. Our dreams will be realized if, in some small way, we are able to make a traditional Minnesota
resort vacation a fantastic experience and happy memory for our guests.
There are lots of decisions: Should
we keep the current name or rename this resort? Where is the best place to reach our future guests? Is the
web site easy to use? What books should be in our library for the "summer read" for guests.
