Makin' Maple SyrupSpring! Its here! Rocky Shores resort cabin
and campsites are surround by approximately 25 acres of natural Sugar Maple forest. A maple forest is known
as a “Sugarbush.” In the spring when the days get around 40 degrees and the nights are still below freezing
the maple sap runs. This year we decided to try making maple syrup. It takes 35-40 gallons of sap to make a gallon
of pure maple syrup. Each tree produces 5 to 10 gallons of sap each year, it differs by year and there is no deducible
reason for variation such as water table, temperature, etc. The sap is no longer good for syrup once the tree begins
to bud out. We had a blast this past week, getting outside in the sunshine and boiling sap into maple syrup over a wood
fire. We’d love to tell you all about it this summer! Just ask.

Ice Fishing - ya gotta try it! Minnesota winter catch - a 21" Northern Pike. This tasty beauty was reeled in my Mary Kay. People who have
never tried ice fishing usually add that they aren't going to try. Remember you are in an ice house. The heater
makes it very warm - all the outdoor clothing come off quickly. Then there is fish TV. You can watch the monitor
and see the strike on your hook. There's a bunk for taking a nap, don't worry the reels are mounted to the wall
and when the line moves the bells ring. You never get sunburned. Bowstring Lake is a natural fishery. It
is one of the best lakes in Minnesota, naturally, - it is not stocked by the MN DNR. We have winterized cabins
so an ice fishing weekend couldd be a nice Rx for your "cabin fever."
